Join Erin Eco-Film Fest for the inspiring story of Wangari Maathai's green revolution that sparked both a healthy forest revival AND democracy in Kenya.

So there will be time for some discussion afterwards, the short (53-minute) version of this doc will be screened, which chronicles the amazing life of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Wangari Maathai and her 1977 founding of the Green Belt Movement in Kenya.

The film recounts how Maathai's grassroots efforts to combat deforestation by teaching rural women to plant trees grew and evolved into a powerful movement for environmental transformation/conservation, women's empowerment, and political democracy. It’s about generating mutual courage and strength - and how much can be accomplished when we all work together - hence, pretty timely in our precarious world of 2026!

* DINNER/SNACKS OR DRINKS BEFORE THE FILM? The movie room at The Busholme (156 Main Street, Erin) will be open for service starting at 5:30 pm on film night, Monday April 20. Please call ahead to reserve your table in the back room where we screen the films - 519-315-0315.
