The Ontario government is proposing a radical change to the way water-taking is permitted in Ontario.
At first, we thought it was just to enable Ice River to keep bottling at the Nestlé/Blue Triton plant. Now, we understand this change could create a water-taking system that operates without scrutiny, without environment assessment, without public comment, and without duty to consult Indigenous nations.
Ontario’s water is a shared public trust, not a commodity to be passed from hand to hand without scrutiny or consent. Please take a moment now to submit your comment of opposition by August 1st through the Environmental Registry of Ontario and let the Minister of Environment, Conservation and Parks, and the Premier know that the people of Ontario say water permits are not transferable assets.
Water is for Life, Not Profit.
