About the Event
Join us for this Solidarity Learning Circle event, where non-Indigenous folks who work with Indigenous-led movements will share what they’ve learned through their solidarity journeys. The 7 panelists include people from across Turtle Island and from different lived experiences, so the information shared will be rich, varied, and have something for everyone to learn. The session will be conversational, leaving space to explore questions that emerge from the audience about solidarity.
- Panelists include folks who've worked alongside Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, Wet'suwet'en, and Grassy Narrows justice movements, as well as confronting systemic water access issues experienced disproportionately by Indigenous people.
- We host many events that center Indigenous voices directly, yet we also hear from Indigenous allies about the burden of having to educate settlers to do and be better. This session is being held in the spirit of a “settlers teaching settlers” model that shifts this burden of education away from Indigenous leaders and towards the rich experiential learnings of settlers who are in direct allyship with Indigenous-led movements. This does not replace the importance of continuing to learn from and listen to Indigenous voices, but supplements with space for settlers to engage with other settlers around solidarity.
We hope you'll join us to explore advancing personal and collective understandings of solidarity, with inspiration and action opportunities to steward us all toward building more meaningful practices of solidarity into our own lives.
